Pondera County, located in the southern half of the Blackfeet Nation, refused to offer a satellite in-person voting site on the reservation. The County offered in person only voting between 60 to 80 miles away for Blackfeet Nation residents in the county seat of Conrad, Montana. Refusing to establish the voting site would result in disenfranchisement of mainly indigenous voters. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Blackfeet Nation by the Native American Rights Fund and the ACLU of Montana in US District Court, resulted in a settlement only 3 days after it was filed.
