The ACLU of Montana is delighted to announce that it has hired SK Rossi as Director of Advocacy and Public Policy. Rossi, who started work on July 22, 2016, will be responsible for advancing the ACLU of Montana's civil liberties policy agenda before the state legislature, the executive branch, local government bodies, and administrative agencies, and will lead and collaborate on advocacy initiatives across the state, including the ACLU of Montana's new Racial Justice Project.
The ACLU of Montana is a non-partisan organization that defends the civil rights and civil liberties of all Montanans through policy advocacy, litigation, and public education.
SK Rossi most recently served as the Director of Advocacy and Policy at the ACLU of Missouri since September of 2014, having taken that position in the wake of the killing of Michael Brown. While there, Rossi helped launch a racial and criminal justice project and substantially built the ACLU's reputation in the Missouri capitol, among other significant accomplishments. A graduate of the University of Montana School of Law, Rossi previously worked at the Montana Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV) for four years, including as its Legal and Public Policy Director for three. In this capacity, Rossi helped advance LGBT equality, women's rights, and immigrants' rights across Montana, and led MCADSV's Tribal Advocacy Project. Rossi has also worked as a Community Health and Development Educator in Gambia, West Africa. Rossi has received numerous awards, including the University of Montana School of Law's Burton K. Wheeler Award for personal integrity, courage and independent thought; the Missouri LGBTQ Pride Hero Award; and the St. Joe LGBTQ Pride Community Impact Award, and was named one of "30 Women Changing Politics in Missouri."
"Rossi brings a wealth of relevant experience and expertise that will help advance the ACLU of Montana's policy agenda," said ACLU Executive Director Caitlin Borgmann. "Rossi has also demonstrated a deep commitment to civil rights and social justice and a proven ability to get results. We are excited to have Rossi leading our efforts to defend freedom throughout Montana."
