Luis Soto-Lopez was wrongfully jailed at the Gallatin County Detention Center pursuant to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Hold (also called a “detainer”), despite his ability to post bond for a misdemeanor. This class-action lawsuit seeks to end the use of ICE detainers for all current and future people incarcerated at the Gallatin County Detention Center. The ACLU of Montana filed a similar suit against Lincoln County in November 2018.
